The reliability and validity of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC) was studied with 443 adolescents with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and adolescents with anxiety disorder. A confirmatory factor analysis showed that a three-factor model fit the data better than a two-factor model. The STAIC had a desirable level of reliability when administered to adolescents with SUD. According to item response theory, all the items of the STAIC were highly discriminating. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis, item response theory, and reliability indicated that the STAIC was applicable to adolescents.
