Observations reveal tail luring and rain-harvesting behaviors in Bothrops pitvipers, suggesting new ecological insights.
We report tail luring and rain‐harvesting in two species of Bothrops pitvipers from the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Our observations challenge the widely held views that tail luring is largely restricted to juvenile pitvipers, and that rain‐harvesting is an adaptation evolved by vipers to cope with life in water‐limited environments.
