English Abstract: Much research remains to be done regarding the history of music libraries in the decade immediately after the end of World War II. The founding of the United Nations in October 1945, and especially the formal establishment of UNESCO less than a month later, was the impetus for the establishment of numerous cultural organisations, with the Conseil International de Musique (International Music Council) of special importance for our field. While the IMC did not include music libraries among its various areas of focus, it recognised very early on the importance of libraries within UNESCO's overall agenda as a means of fostering peaceful relations, and public education (UNESCO's Bulletin for Libraries began publication in 1947). The first World Congress of Music Libraries, held in Florence in late 1949, was crucial to the development of what, from 1951, became IAML/AIBM/IVMB. In addition to documenting some of the history behind this story, the article reproduces two core texts from the proceedings of the World Congress—the speech given at the opening of the event, and a list of those who attended it. French Abstract: Beaucoup de recherches restent à mener concernant l'histoire des bibliothèques musicales au cours de la décennie qui a suivi immédiatement la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. La création des Nations Unies en octobre 1945, et en particulier la fondation officielle de l'UNESCO moins d'un mois plus tard, a donné une impulsion à la création de nombreuses organisations culturelles, parmi lesquelles le Conseil international de la musique (CIM) revêt une importance particulière pour notre domaine. Bien que l'IMC n'ait pas inclus les bibliothèques musicales par-mi ses différents domaines d'intérêt, il a très tôt reconnu l'importance des bibliothèques dans le programme général de l'UNESCO en tant que moyen de favoriser les relations pacifiques et l'éducation du public (le Bulletin des bibliothèques de l'UNESCO a commencé à paraître en 1947). Le premier Congrès mondial des bibliothèques musicales, qui s'est tenu à Florence fin 1949, a joué un rôle crucial dans le développement de ce qui, à partir de 1951, est devenu l'IAML/AIBM/IVMB. German Abstract: Zur Geschichte der Musikbibliotheken im Jahrzehnt nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg besteht weiterhin großer Forschungsbedarf. Die Gründung der Vereinten Nationen im Oktober 1945 und insbesondere die formelle Etablierung der UNESCO – kaum einen Monat später – gaben den Anstoß zur Gründung zahlreicher Kulturorganisationen. Der Internationale Musikrat ( Conseil International de Musique , IMC) spielte dabei eine besonders wichtige Rolle für unser Fachgebiet. Obwohl der IMC Musikbibliotheken nicht zu seinen Schwerpunktthemen zählte, erkannte er frühzeitig die Bedeutung von Bibliotheken im Rahmen der generellen UNESCO-Agenda als Mittel zur Förderung friedlicher Beziehungen und der öffentlichen Bildung (das UNESCO-Bulletin für Bibliotheken erschien erstmals 1947). Der erste Weltkongress der Musikbibliotheken, der Ende 1949 in Florenz stattfand, war entscheidend für die Entwicklung dessen, was ab 1951 als IAML/AIBM/IVMB bekannt wurde. Neben der Dokumentation einiger historischer Hintergründe enthält der Artikel zwei zentrale Schriftstücke aus den Tagungsbänden des Weltkongresses: die Eröffnungsrede und eine Teilnehmerliste.
