Investigates digital finance's role in green technology R&D and corporate sustainability in firms.
Drawing upon an panel dataset of China's A-share listed firms over the period 2012–2023, this study employs a two-way fixed-effects model to empirically investigate the nexus between green technology research and development efficiency (GTRE) and corporate sustainable development performance, with a specific emphasis on the moderating influence of digital finance empowerment. The results indicate that GTRE serves as a substantial positive driver for enhancing corporate sustainable development performance. Moreover, digital finance empowerment plays a pivotal moderating role in the relationship between GTRE and corporate sustainable development performance, with this moderating effect manifesting distinct variations between high-tech and non-high-tech sectors. Furthermore, the impact of GTRE on corporate sustainable development performance exhibits notable regional disparities across the eastern, central, and western regions of China, underscoring the nuanced interplay between green innovation and financial empowerment in fostering corporate sustainability.
