Describes a new buprestid species and revises a historical specimen, suggesting insights into ancient biodiversity.
A new buprestid species, Chalcophora eocenica sp. nov. is described from the lower Eocene of Bolca Lagerstätte, northeastern Italy, based on a single well-preserved specimen in part and counterpart. The specimen of ‘Perotis laevigata Heer, 1847’ described by Massalongo (1856), from the same outcrop, is revised. Its exact genus position is uncertain. The genus Chalcophora represents an important part of the extant biodiversity of xylophagous beetles, living on conifers. The study of these insects in the laminated limestones of Pesciara contributes to expanding knowledge of the palaeoenvironments of the nearby continental areas.urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:E58C4772-D5F7-41F0-9AD5-30574DFE37C1
