The research identifies IL4I1+ macrophages influencing immune escape in cutaneous T-cell lymphomas, implying therapeutic potential.
Interleukin 4-induced gene 1 (IL4I1) is an immunosuppressive enzyme mainly secreted by antigen presenting cells, including macrophages and dendritic cells. It is aberrantly expressed in the tumor microenvironment (TME), and overexpressed in several malignancies (Gatineau et al. 2022). A receptor for IL4I1, the transmembrane protease TMPRSS13, has been identified (Gatineau et al. 2022), although its functional role remains unclear.
