Pilot study shows guided digital program improves meaning in life and reduces anxiety in Ibero‐Americans, indicating potential mental health benefits.
Aim To assess the effects of a guided digital meaning‐centred program on anxiety, depression and meaning in life and to determine its effects over time. Method A pilot study with a control group with pre‐test, post‐test and follow‐up measurements. Participants were 69 Ibero‐American adults between 25 and 53 years old. The intervention program consisted of a platform that included eight modules that helped individuals to connect with their purpose along with the guidance of a licensed psychotherapist for 9 weeks. Results An increase in the meaning of life score and a decrease in depression and anxiety scores were observed. Pre–post changes were significant within the intervention group, with large effect sizes ( d ≥ 1.63) and the effects persisted at the 2‐month follow‐up. Part of the reduction in depression can be explained through a partial mediation model, so the program reduces depression to the extent that it also reduces anxiety ( p < 0.001). Conclusion This pilot study is one of the first to provide preliminary evidence on the efficacy of a guided digital meaning‐centred program with a significant scope to promote mental health within an Ibero‐American context.
