This randomized trial examines insertion and return loss characteristics in W-band transitions, highlighting potential applications in circuits.
In this article, a W-band transition from rectangular waveguide to perforated H-guide is presented. The proposed transition is fed by the WR-10 rectangular waveguide. A back-to-back transition covering the entire W-band spectrum is designed and fabricated, and its characteristics are measured. To fabricate the proposed transition, polymer and metal 3D printing technologies are used in the present work. Polypropylene material is used to design the dielectric section, while copper is used to design the metal housing block. The measured return loss of the designed transition is better than 11 dB across the entire W-band (75–110 GHz). The measured insertion loss varies between 4.2–5.3 dB in the 75–98 GHz frequency band and is approximately 5.5–8.3 dB at the higher frequencies. The proposed transition can be a potential candidate for W-band circuits and systems.
