Comprehensive review analyzes pravastatin microemulsions’ impact on cardiovascular therapy, highlighting implications for treatment.
This review is intended to provide a comprehensive analysis of pravastatin-loaded microemulsions as a novel nano-delivery platform for cardiovascular therapy. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are still a global health problem, and despite the fact that statins such as pravastatin are the basis of therapy, their low oral bioavailability, hydrophilicity, and first-pass metabolism limit the therapeutic results to a large extent. Microemulsions are thermodynamically stable systems composed of nanosized droplets that improve the solubility, permeability, and systemic delivery of poorly absorbed drugs. This article will discuss the pharmacological constraints of pravastatin, the need for microemulsion-based delivery, detailed formulation strategies including phase diagram construction, excipient selection, and advanced characterisa-tion methods. The review also discusses recent developments in in vitro and in vivo assessments, enhancement of bioavailability, safety, regulatory issues, and future research directions. This synthesis provides significant insights into the translational potential of pravastatin microemulsions for CVD treatment.
