Case report highlights dual infections from Burkholderia and Fusarium in newly diagnosed diabetic male, indicating diagnostic complexities.
We report a rare case of septic arthritis of the elbow caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei with concomitant Fusarium species infection in a newly diagnosed diabetic male. The patient presented with fever and localized swelling. Imaging and culture studies revealed a mixed bacterial and fungal etiology with pulmonary dissemination. The case highlights the need to consider melioidosis in endemic regions, the predisposing role of diabetes, and the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges posed by dual infections in immunocompromised hosts.
