Investigates alpha-lipoic acid's effect on hepatotoxicity in male albino rats, suggesting a protective role against carbon nanotube exposure.
Multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are advantageous for several medical and industrial applications. Alpha‐lipoic acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of ALA in mitigating hepatotoxicity caused by MWCNTs in male albino rats. Exposure to MWCNTs resulted in a significant increase in alanine transaminase (ALT) levels, along with elevated production of caspase‐3. Simultaneously, they significantly diminished the mRNA expression levels of glutathione peroxidase. Furthermore, MWCNTs caused disorganization of hepatic plates, accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration. Conversely, ALA treatment mitigated the detrimental effects induced by MWCNTs. Collectively, ALA substantially mitigates MWCNTs‐induced hepatotoxicity through antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, and anti‐apoptotic activities.
