ECR Spotlight highlights Daniele Pinton's work on red drum behavior in relation to hydrodynamics, suggesting new insights for early-career researchers.
ECR Spotlight is a series of interviews with early-career authors from a selection of papers published in Journal of Experimental Biology and aims to promote not only the diversity of early-career researchers (ECRs) working in experimental biology but also the huge variety of animals and physiological systems that are essential for the ‘comparative’ approach. Daniele Pinton is an author on ‘ From lab to ocean: bridging swimming energetics and wild movements to understand red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) behavior in a tidal estuary’, published in JEB. Daniele conducted the research described in this article while a post-doc at the University of Florida (2023–2025) in Dr Alberto Canestrelli's lab. Daniele is now a freelance hydraulic engineer and numerical modeler (currently applying for researcher/assistant professor positions), investigating coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics, nature-based solutions and numerical modeling of water quality and sediment transport under climate change impacts.
