Case reports demonstrate improved mood symptoms with endoxifen in patients with secondary mood disorders, suggesting potential efficacy.
The protein kinase-C (PKC) plays an important role in the pathophysiology of mood disorders. Hence, inhibiting PKC with endoxifen is a useful strategy for bipolar disorders. We are describing our experience with endoxifen prescribed to two patients with secondary mood disorder who were either nonresponsive or not tolerating conventional pharmacotherapies and were prescribed endoxifen. Both showed improvement in mood symptoms and functional outcomes over 2 weeks. No significant adverse events occurred. Based on our experience, endoxifen may hold promise in secondary mood disorders. Further randomized studies with a larger sample size are required to confirm our findings.
