Study examined liquid-phase behavior in cBN and HEA composites, highlighting material interactions.
Under conditions of high pressures and temperatures, the interaction between cBN micropowder and a high-entropy alloy (HEA), specifically 37Ni19Fe19Cr17Co4Ti4Al (vol %), was examined. During high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) sintering at a temperature of Ts = 2250°C and a holding time of 60 s in the 70cBN–30HEA (vol %) system, the alloy liquid phase filled the entire intergranular space, forming a metal–ceramic composite. X-ray diffraction analysis and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy revealed no reaction products of the initial components or solid solutions based on them within the composite structure.
