Expanded companion document explains ITOF V22/F2, addressing temporal agency misconceptions in its framework.
This expanded companion document provides a structured clarification and objection-response layer for Invariant Temporal Ordering Framework (ITOF) V22/F2. It is not a new version of ITOF, does not revise the V22/F2 core, and should not be treated as ITOF V23. Its purpose is to explain, defend, and conceptually deepen the V22/F2 assignment law of systemic change-realization by addressing recurring misunderstandings about time, change, succession, clocks, duration, light propagation, astronomical observation, distance units, environment, stability, motion, living systems, and relativistic interpretation. The document preserves the fixed ITOF temporal ontology: T_ITOF = (S_phys, prior--subsequent ordering relation) Here, S_phys denotes distinguishable realized physical stages, and the prior--subsequent ordering relation denotes invariant ordering from prior to subsequent stages. ITOF does not deny time. It denies temporal agency. Time is not treated as matter, energy, force, field, medium, radiation, signal, record, measuring device, model parameter, physical system, causal agency, or physical determinant. The realized stages are physical; the prior--subsequent ordering relation among them is not itself a physical object, substance, force, field, medium, or determinant. A central addition in this expanded companion version is the constitutive physical-factor clarification. In ITOF, time is excluded from physical causation not merely by definition, but because it lacks the constitutive properties required of a physical influencing factor. A physical factor must possess some mode of physical presence, material or energetic character, field-like or force-like capacity, pathway of interaction, and ability to enter determinant engagement with a selected affected system. Time does not possess these properties. Since T_ITOF is not matter, energy, force, field, medium, radiation, signal, record, or physical system, it has no physical channel through which it can act upon physical systems and no physical substrate through which physical factors can act upon it. Accordingly, the document denies two transfers at once. First, time does not act upon physical systems. Second, physical factors do not act upon time itself. Physical factors may affect clocks, signals, media, bodies, detectors, biological systems, trajectories, instruments, and measurement arrangements; they do not affect T_ITOF itself. What changes under heat, gravity, velocity, acceleration, pressure, radiation, or interaction is a physical system, signal, medium, detector, clock, or measurement representation, not time as invariant prior--subsequent ordered succession. The companion clarifies that change does not require time as a cause. Change is assigned to determinant engagement and the affected system's response structure. Relevant physical factors and influencing physical systems engage a selected system A: Eng_A := Engagement_A(Fact_A, InfSys_to_A) Here, ":=" means "is defined as" or "is assigned as" in this repository-safe plain-text notation. The affected system realizes a response state: rho_A_resp = Resp_A(Eng_A; Theta_A, Gamma_A_coh, R_A_cap, Q_A, K_A) Realized change is then assigned as the change-content of that response state: Delta_X_A = ChangeContent_A(rho_A_resp) The corresponding temporal exclusions are: T_ITOF not in Fact_AT_ITOF not in InfSys_to_AT_ITOF not in PhysDet_AT_ITOF not in Cause(Delta_X_A) A central purpose of the document is to clarify that ITOF does not deny duration, measurement, clocks, relativity, light propagation, astronomical observation, or useful modeling. It rejects only the ontological transfer by which operational success, clock readings, model parameters, propagation offsets, distance units, or coordinate systems are interpreted as evidence that time itself is a physical cause, medium, carrier, deformable entity, or determinant of change. The document expands the notion of the extension of succession. In ITOF, extension of succession does not mean that time extends as a physical substance or that there exists one universal clock or one universal measured duration. It means that the prior--subsequent ordering relation continues as physical stages continue to be realized and distinguished: X_A(0) prior-to X_A(1) prior-to X_A(2) prior-to X_A(3) prior-to ... Equivalently, in compact repository-safe symbolic form: X_A(0) precedes X_A(1) precedes X_A(2) precedes X_A(3) precedes ... A subsequent stage may become prior relative to a later stage, but it does not become prior to the stage whose successor it was. Repetition and resemblance do not reverse ordering; a repeated or similar state is still a later realized state. Thus, extension belongs to the continuing ordered realization of physical stages, not to a flowing temporal substance. The document further clarifies the ITOF treatment of clocks and duration. Clocks are physical systems that generate ordered outputs by means of regular physical processes. They may be affected by heat, pressure, acceleration, gravity, velocity, damage, design limits, or environmental conditions. Such effects belong to the clock as a physical system and to the measurement arrangement, not to T_ITOF itself. Measured duration is therefore preserved operationally as a comparison of ordered stages, clock outputs, or modeled intervals, but it is not promoted into temporal substance or temporal agency. The document also clarifies the ITOF treatment of light. Incident light is treated primarily as a physical factor or light-borne physical record, not as an influencing physical system in itself under ordinary determinant classification. The source, detector, mirror, medium, or affected body may be physical systems; the light reaching or affecting a selected system functions through its frequency, intensity, energy, wavelength, direction, propagation conditions, and interaction conditions. Light may carry physical records associated with source events, but it does not carry time. Astronomical observation is therefore assigned to source events, light-borne records, propagation offsets, detector systems, measurement representation, and observational records. The relation between successive source events and successive observations can be written in repository-safe plain-text notation as: iota_obs(O2) - iota_obs(O1) = [iota_src(E2) - iota_src(E1)] + [Pi2 - Pi1] When propagation offsets are stable or corrected, Pi2 - Pi1 is approximately zero, and the relation reduces to: iota_obs(O2) - iota_obs(O1) approximately equals iota_src(E2) - iota_src(E1) This means that the observed separation between received records can approximate the source-event separation when propagation offsets are stable or corrected. It does not create separate ontological times for stars, galaxies, Earth, or observers. The document also clarifies environmental non-substitution. The surrounding environment is not an independent physical factor, influencing system, or cause in itself. It is a descriptive aggregation of actual physical factors, influencing physical systems, pathways, boundary relations, and locality conditions: Env_A_sur = Agg_sur(Fact_A, InfSys_to_A, P_A, B_A, L_A) As an undecomposed term, the environment is excluded from direct substitution for actual determinants: Env_A_sur not in Fact_AEnv_A_sur not in InfSys_to_AEnv_A_sur not in Cause(Delta_X_A) The conclusion is that ITOF V22/F2 does not deny time, change, duration, clocks, measurement, light, distance, astronomical observation, environmental conditions, or the operational success of relativistic modeling. It denies only the transfer of explanatory agency to time. Time expresses invariant prior--subsequent ordering among realized stages; it does not produce, arrange, regulate, measure, transmit, carry, deform, affect, or receive physical action from those stages or from physical factors. Expanded companion document to Invariant Temporal Ordering Framework (ITOF) V22/F2. Independent theoretical research preprint. Short Description:An expanded companion clarification and objection-response document to ITOF V22/F2. The document explains that ITOF does not deny time, change, duration, clocks, light, distance, measurement, or successful modeling. It denies temporal agency: the interpretation of time as a physical factor, cause, medium, carrier, deformable entity, or determinant. The expanded version emphasizes that time lacks the constitutive properties required of physical influencing factors and therefore neither acts upon physical systems nor receives physical action from them.
