Shows effective management of postoperative intrahepatic stones using dual endoscopic techniques, highlighting a novel approach.
An 87-year-old woman developed cholangitis due to stone formation around an internal biliary stent five years after undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy for distal bile duct cancer. Endoscopic removal using a short-type double-balloon endoscope-assisted ERCP was unsuccessful; however, subsequent percutaneous cholangioscopy with electrohydraulic lithotripsy enabled fragmentation of the stone. The migrated internal biliary stent was then successfully removed using a short-type double-balloon endoscope. This rare case has highlighted the effectiveness of a combined approach using short-type double-balloon endoscopy and percutaneous cholangioscopy for managing postoperative intrahepatic stones associated with a migrated internal biliary stent.
