Scoping review examines ethnic-racial experiences and their impact on youth outcomes, guiding future priorities.
The scoping review project aims to examine outcomes related to belonging, social inclusion, socioemotional development, school engagement, academic achievement, identity formation, and indicators of physical and behavioral health. A search was conducted in the four education-related databases. Boolean operators were used to identify terms such as: type of ethnic-racial construct investigated, including racism, racial discrimination, ethnic discrimination, microaggressions, racial identity, ethnic identity, ethnic-racial identity, racial socialization, ethnic-racial socialization, racial identity development, anti-racism, and anti-racist interventions. The resulting map will support the identification of knowledge gaps, guide future research priorities, and provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of evidence regarding ethnic-racial experiences in childhood and youth.
