Case report demonstrating curative resection of adenocarcinoma in an elderly patient, indicating potential for successful treatment.
The case is a male in his 90s with decades-old previous surgery for a hiatal hernia of the esophagus. In 20XX, an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), peformed due to food transit disturbance and revealed mild esophageal stricture and Long Segment Barrett's Esophagus. Thereafter, periodic EGDs were performed, and, at the 20XX+11 EGD, an elevated lesion was observed on the right anterior side of the lower thoracic esophagus. A biopsy indicated Group 4, and Barrett's esophageal adenocarcinoma was suspected. We performed endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Pathology results were adenocarcinoma, IIa, tub1, pT1a (SMM), INFb, ly0, v0, HM0, VM0.
