Demonstrates the introduction of viability as a central concept in various systems, suggesting a new framework.
This paper examines the scientific novelty of Vitology as an interdisciplinary research program centered on the concept of viability. The distinctive features of Vitology are analyzed in comparison with systems theory, cybernetics, resilience studies, sustainability science, and the theory of complex adaptive systems. Particular attention is paid to the introduction of viability as an integral criterion of the state and development of systems. The paper discusses the role of harmony, regeneration, feedback, and self-regulation in maintaining and increasing system viability and outlines the contribution of Vitology to the development of a common conceptual framework for describing systems of different nature. Keywords Vitology, scientific novelty, viability, systems theory, cybernetics, resilience, regeneration, harmony,self-regulation, complex adaptive systems.
