We present a genome assembly from an individual female Xestia baja (Dotted Clay; Arthropoda; Insecta; Lepidoptera; Noctuidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 584.39 megabases and 524.33 megabases. Most of haplotype 1 (99.95%) is scaffolded into 32 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the W and Z sex chromosomes. Most of haplotype 2 (99.79%) is scaffolded into 30 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 15.39 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly on Ensembl identified 13 948 protein-coding genes. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
