Abstract

Early detection of biomarkers associated with peripheral nerve injury (PNI) is essential for timely diagnosis and effective management of PNI. Conventional diagnostic approaches are limited by high cost, invasiveness, and reliance on the operator's expertise. Biosensing technology, which integrates biological recognition elements with advanced signal transduction and detection systems, offers a promising strategy to address these challenges. This review summarizes detectable biomarkers following PNI and outlines conventional detection methods. We further discuss the classification, advantages, and disadvantages of biosensors, and this article summarizes the application of biosensors for detecting PNI for the first time. This review discusses the future prospects of biosensors in PNI diagnosis and treatment and hopes to promote the clinical application of biosensors.
