This randomized trial demonstrates a visible-light strategy for 1,2-arylpyridylation of alkenes, suggesting broad applicability.
We report a visible-light-mediated photoreduction strategy for the three-component 1,2-arylpyridylation of alkenes with arylboronic acids and 4-cyanopyridines. The reaction mechanism was verified via radical trapping experiments and DFT calculations. This reaction proceeds under mild conditions, features broad substrate compatibility and is readily scalable to the gram scale.
