Purpose - The increasing reliance on bibliometric indicators for research evaluation has highlighted the importance of selecting appropriate scholarly databases for citation analysis and research assessment. This study comparatively examines Scopus, Web of Science, ResearchGate, and Google Scholar with respect to their coverage, citation metrics, research visibility, and contributions to scholarly communication. Methodology - The study adopts a qualitative review methodology based on an extensive analysis of scholarly literature, bibliometric studies, database documentation, and research evaluation reports. Relevant academic publications were critically examined to compare database coverage, citation indexing, author profiling, research visibility, and bibliometric indicators across the four platforms. Findings - The findings indicate that Scopus and Web of Science provide highly standardized and quality-controlled citation databases suitable for formal research evaluation. Google Scholar offers the broadest scholarly coverage by indexing diverse publication types, whereas ResearchGate enhances research visibility through academic networking and alternative research metrics. Each platform demonstrates unique strengths and limitations depending on the intended research purpose. Practical Implications - The study provides practical guidance for researchers, librarians, journal editors, universities, and policymakers in selecting appropriate scholarly databases for literature review, citation analysis, institutional assessment, and research performance evaluation. The findings support the complementary use of multiple databases to improve bibliometric reliability. Originality - This paper offers a comprehensive comparative analysis of four major scholarly information platforms by integrating bibliometric coverage, citation metrics, and research visibility within a single analytical framework, thereby contributing to informed scholarly communication and responsible research evaluation.
