Trial trench evaluation assesses archaeological features in preparation for construction, indicating minimal activity.
The trial trench evaluation was carried out in advance of the construction of a single dwelling, double garage and associated infrastructure. Three trenches were excavated, each 20m long by 1.8 wide. Trial trenching revealed a small number of generally shallow features cut into the underlying geology. Interpreted as pits and ditches/gullies were devoid of artefacts other than a single fragment of animal bone recovered from the site. The features indicate low density activity of indeterminate date, with no evidence to suggest occupation in the immediate vicinity of the site.
