This research investigates the maritime transportation context under Industry 4.0. The adoption of digital technology in shipping and other related activities that have been done in this area constituted the impetus for carrying out this study. Industry 4.0 employing IoT, AI, big data, and automation may revolutionize maritime transportation to ensure sustainable operations, safety standards, and efficiency advancements. This paper presents a detailed investigation into Industry 4.0 for naval vessels, including enormous challenges, potential improvements, and emerging trends. They demonstrate how digitalization can enhance environmental monitoring on a real-time basis, automate ports, operate systems predictive maintenance, and handle cargo using modern technologies used by businesses at present. During its course, it also looks into weaknesses, mainly focusing on financial implications and incorporating emotional support networks simulated-based decision-making, supporting them with artificial intelligence devices. This article adds value through the aggregation and synthesis of current literature on the subject, determination of knowledge gaps, and laying down avenues for future research to inform policymakers and industry actors. The research further indicates how digitalization has the capacity to enhance environmental sustainability, economic efficiency, and operational resilience in maritime transport.
