New species descriptions reveal the diversity of Laius in China, suggesting rich biodiversity in the region.
The genus Laius (Melyridae, Malachiinae) inhabits seashore rocks and currently includes five species from China, two of which require transfer to other genera based on their original descriptions. Two new sympatric species from Fujian, Laius simingensis sp. nov . and Laius xiamenensis sp. nov ., are described. A diagnostic key, based on males, to the valid Chinese species of Laius is provided. The distribution of Laius flavicornis (Fabricius, 1801) in China is discussed.
