Higher serum Fetuin-A levels linked to AF compared to normal sinus rhythm.
Why the study?
Biomarkers related to the pathogenesis of AF have attracted expert attention, including recently studied Fetuin-A, but its relationship with AF required evaluation.
Are elevated serum Fetuin-A levels associated with the presence of atrial fibrillation in patients with normal ejection fraction?
Case-Control (n=95)
No
Are elevated serum Fetuin-A levels associated with the presence of atrial fibrillation in patients with normal ejection fraction?
Elevated serum Fetuin-A levels are independently associated with the presence of atrial fibrillation, suggesting this biomarker may play a role in the pathophysiology of the arrhythmia.

Tekin et al. (2024) conducted a case-control in Atrial Fibrillation (n=95). Serum Fetuin-A levels vs. Normal sinus rhythm (controls) was evaluated on Presence of atrial fibrillation (AOR 0.978, 95% CI 0.969-0.988, p=<0.001). Higher serum Fetuin-A levels were independently associated with atrial fibrillation compared to controls with normal sinus rhythm (544 vs 484 μg/mL, AOR 0.978).
