Assesses dengue virus infections in blood donors, suggesting crucial implications for transfusion safety.
Blood donor serosurveys can be valuable for haemovigilance. Flichman and colleagues report increasing anti-dengue virus (DENV) IgG seroprevalence in blood donors from three Argentine regions and detectable DENV RNA in donors during the 2022–23 outbreak.1 These findings support targeted assessment of transfusion risk. However, the use of these data to infer that approximately 10.2 million new infections occurred nationally raises important concerns about target population, sampling frame, and precision.
