This analytical review covered 10 years of published scientific articles, from January 1, 2014, to February 28, 2025, devoted to the impact of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on maternal and child health. It was shown that carbohydrate metabolism disorders present during pregnancy can progress and lead to the development of type 2 diabetes as early as 2—3 years after birth. Children born from mothers with gestational diabetes are also at risk of developing metabolic and neurosensory disorders, the severity of which depends on the subtype of gestational diabetes. The need for preventive and rehabilitative measures in the postpartum period is obvious, but is complicated by the unique living conditions of nursing mothers. The development of personalized lifestyle modification programs may be a promising approach to improving the health of mothers with gestational diabetes and their children and preventing the adverse consequences of gestational diabetes.
