This manuscript describes the Medicine Care Advancement Team, a novel solution to address prolonged delays in care for patients awaiting medicine admission at a large teaching hospital. Our Department of Medicine restructured existing inpatient hospitalist and resident teams to create a co-management consult team working with the Emergency Department to provide care for these patients during periods of inpatient capacity constraints. This team decreased time to inpatient care by 1.3 h, increased productivity by 25%, and offered unique learning opportunities for resident house staff.
