Strong earthquakes threaten buildings by causing severe structural and functional damage. Hysteretic dampers are widely used to dissipate seismic energy, and this study examines the performance of an H-type shear panel damper, a steel damper that absorbs energy through shear plastic deformation. Seismic response analyses of steel structures with stud-supported H-type shear panel damper under various ground motions evaluated story drift, plasticization, and energy dissipation. Results show that H-type shear panel damper enhance seismic resilience by concentrating plastic deformation within the damper, protecting structural members. Their deformation capacity was further verified against fatigue curve limits from the Architectural Institute of Japan guidelines.
