Study sequenced mitochondrial genome in thrips, indicating gene organization and phylogenetic relationships.
Megalurothrips distalis (Karny, 1913) is a widely distributed pest of leguminous and other economic plants. We sequenced its complete mitogenome (15,479 bp; 78.3% A+T) using next-generation technology. The mitogenome contains 37 typical genes and three control regions. Gene rearrangements include the tight positioning of trnH between nad5 and nad4. High similarity between two control regions suggests a recent duplication event, reflecting the dynamic organization of thrips mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analysis based on protein-coding genes places M. distalis within Thripinae, closely related to other Megalurothrips species. This mitogenome provides a valuable resource for species identification and thrips phylogenetics.
