Experimental analysis evaluates fabric properties from paper yarn, suggesting suitability for household textiles.
The study aims to investigate the fundamental mechanical, thermal comfort, moisture management, and handle properties of fabrics produced from Manila hemp (Abacá fiber) paper fiber paper as a textile material for the sustainable production. Conventional fibers such as cotton and viscose were selected to compare with the fabric produced from paper yarn, and plain woven fabrics were produced from these three different fiber types. Subsequently, the fabrics tested to evaluate their basic physical characteristics, mechanical strength, thermal behavior, and comfort attributes. According to test results, fabric produced with paper yarn is found to be appropriate for clothing manufacture when taking into account the physical characteristics of the fabrics employed in the study. However, due to its rigidity, limited heat resistance, and poor moisture conduction, it is more suitable for use in the creation household textile applications such as; surface coverings for furniture like sofas and beds where durability is necessary.
