The consistent presence of specific valvular lesions, ventricular septal defects, and absence of transposition in trisomy-18 may enable two-dimensional echocardiographic diagnosis in the fetus.
Praagh et al. (1989) conducted an observational in Trisomy-18 (n=41). Trisomy-18 was evaluated on Cardiac malformations. In 41 postmortem cases of trisomy-18, 100% had a ventricular septal defect, 93% had polyvalvular disease, and 98% had a subpulmonary infundibulum, with no transposition of the great arteries.
