Investigates memory, motor skills, and depressive-like behavior in mice treated with creatine derivatives and antidepressants.
This study investigated the effects of creatine monohydrate (CrM, 1.5 g/kg/day); newly synthesized creatine lysinate (CrLys), creatine leucinate (CrLeu), creatine isoleucinate (CrIsoleu), creatine arginate (CrArg), and creatine valinate (CrVal) at a dose of 5 g/kg/day; and the antidepressants citalopram and fluoxetine at a dose of 20 mg/kg in the passive avoidance test, rotarod test, and tail suspension test (TST). After 2 weeks of peroral administration in mice, an increase in latency time in the passive avoidance test was observed in the groups treated with CrLeu and fluoxetine. In the rotarod test, the group that received CrIsoleu reached better outcomes on day 14 compared to the other groups. A slight decrease in immobility time in the TST was observed in the groups treated with CrM, CrLys, and fluoxetine. Based on the current results, supplementation with CrM, CrLys, CrLeu, and CrIsoleu shows promise in improving physical and cognitive performance in mice.
