Polydatin dose-dependently reverses methotrexate-induced hepatotoxicity in rats, normalizing AST/ALT best at 100 mg/kg.
Why the study?
This study evaluated polydatin's protective effects against methotrexate-induced hepatotoxicity in rats.
Does polydatin prevent methotrexate-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar albino rats?
Does polydatin prevent methotrexate-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar albino rats?
Polydatin demonstrates dose-dependent hepatoprotective effects against methotrexate-induced liver toxicity in a rat model by modulating inflammatory and apoptotic pathways.
Hypothesis-generating for polydatin in methotrexate hepatotoxicity; human trials needed before clinical consideration.

Gencer et al. (2026) studied Methotrexate (MTX)-induced hepatotoxicity (n=35). Polydatin vs. MTX-only (20 mg/kg) and Control was evaluated on Serum AST/ALT levels, hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA), and pro-inflammatory/apoptotic markers. Polydatin dose-dependently reversed methotrexate-induced hepatotoxicity in rats, with 100 mg/kg normalizing AST/ALT and MDA levels more effectively than 50 mg/kg.
