Randomized trial examines physiological responses to mantra chanting in yoga students, suggesting relaxation effects.
Background and Aims: Mantra integrates manas (mind) and prana (vital energy). Om Sahana Vavatu, a Shanti mantra from the Yajurveda (Taittir?ya Upanishad), promotes peace, while the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is renowned for healing. The vital were recorded resting, during chanting and after five minutes of rest after completion of chanting of each mantra differently. Results: The effect of SM and MM chanting both of the shows significant relaxation immediate after the chanting by decreasing the Heart Rate (HR), Blood Pressure (BP), Rate Pressure Product (RPP), Double product (DoP). Conclusion: Mantra chanting immediately decreased stress which may decrease BP, HR, DoP indicator of load in heart and RPP indicator of myocardial oxygen consumption.
