Surgical resection removes multiple LV fibroelastomas in a pregnant patient with prior mechanical valves.
Case Report (n=1)
This case highlights the rare presentation and surgical management of multiple left ventricular fibroelastomas in a pregnant patient with pre-existing mechanical heart valves.
May support individualized surgical excision of fibroelastomas during pregnancy in select patients with mechanical valves; leaves open need for prospective data.
Cardiac papillary fibroelastomas (PFEs) are one of the most common benign cardiac tumours, characterised as soft friable masses attached to the endocardium by a stalk.1,2 Identification of PFEs may necessitate surgical excision owing to embolic and thromboembolic risk.1,2 Though usually found on mitral and aortic valve surfaces, PFEs are identified less frequently in the left ventricle.3 Herein, we report an interesting case in which a pregnant patient with previous mechanical aortic and mitral replacements presented with a new left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) mass in pregnancy.

Vasanthan et al. (2024) conducted a case report in Left ventricular fibroelastomas (n=1). Surgical resection was evaluated. Surgical resection was described for multiple left ventricular fibroelastomas in a pregnant patient with previous mechanical aortic and mitral valve replacements.
