The outbreak of the Russian war on Ukraine in February 2022 brought unprecedented humanitarian challenges and shattered the foundations of the security architecture in Europe. The humanitarian-development-peace triple nexus (HDP TN), presented as a novel approach to protracted conflicts by the United Nations, became a crucial resource for rethinking reactions to conflicts. UNRISD Working Paper). In the context of this war, we analyze how the HDP TN was framed in Polish discourse. Diverse data has been analyzed: official statements, parliamentary debates (February 2022–August 2023) and media (February–December 2022). Our analysis demonstrates that the HDP TN was rarely invoked as a specific paradigm, but all three constituent elements of the approach were present in political discourse. The humanitarian frames that dominated the response initially were increasingly entangled with conflict resolution perspectives and reconstruction efforts primarily nested in the European Union membership prospect for Ukraine.
