Report analyzes sustainable design practices in new product development of small domestic appliances, suggesting improvements.
The following report analyses the dynamic landscape of New Product Development (NPD) in the Small Domestic Appliances (SDA) sector. In response to environmental concerns and the imperative to promote a better future for the next generation, the study explores the challenges and opportunities of implementing sustainable and circular practices in the NPD process. The report outlines the PhD research methodology adopted and the preliminary outcomes of semi-structured interviews conducted in the three major brands of the SDA PhD partner Group. The aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding and reflection on the intricate relationship between NPD process, Industrial Product Design, Sustainability and Circular Economy, and their collective impact on the evolution of new appliances. Particular attention is given to recognizing the fundamental role of user-centred design research in addressing and consciously satisfying consumer needs while driving sustainable behaviour throughout the entire product lifecycle.
