CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. — When it comes to generative artificial intelligence, higher education institutions have too narrowly focused on risk management, trying to define and ensure the acceptable, responsible use of AI, according to Jacob Rooksby, J.D., Ph.D., Dean, Gonzaga University School of Law, and Intellectual Property Optimization Strategist with Fig. 1 Patents, PLLC. While speaking at Stetson University's National Conference on Law and Higher Education, he said it's time for colleges and universities to expand their scope by developing AI‐related strategies for supporting institutional values, educational purpose, and authenticity, as well as concerns about ownership, governance, and the future.
