Belardinelli et al. (1982) studied Adenosine-induced atrioventricular block. Aminophylline and nucleoside transport inhibitors vs. Adenosine alone was evaluated on Atrial-His conduction time and adenosine uptake. Adenosine delays atrioventricular conduction via an extracellular receptor, an effect that is competitively antagonized by aminophylline independently of phosphodiesterase inhibition.
