Shows how digital capabilities improve construction enterprise performance, highlighting significant effects of management and networking capabilities.
Digitization serves as a critical driver for high-quality development in the construction sector. While performance-driven digital transformation is becoming increasingly prevalent among construction enterprises, the underlying mechanism through which it affects construction enterprise performance remains inadequately explored. Based on the MIND framework and dynamic capability theory, this study constructs a “digital capabilities – dynamic capabilities – construction enterprise performance” model. The structural equation model (SEM) is used for empirical analysis by using the 262 collected questionnaires. The research shows that: (1) Digital management capability (M), digital infrastructure capability (I), digital networking capability (N), and digital business development capability (D) all have significant positive effects on construction enterprise performance, with M and N showing the strongest direct impacts; (2) Dynamic capabilities mediate the relationship between digital capabilities and performance. Digital management capability (M) is the most critical driver, as it primarily boosts enterprise performance by enhancing dynamic management capabilities. This study extends the MIND framework by providing its first empirical application in construction industry, revealing the mechanism of digital capabilities improve enterprise performance via dynamic capabilities. It also offers actionable guidance for construction enterprises to cultivate MIND-based core digital capabilities, advance digital transformation, and enhance business performance.
