Special issue explores voting behavior and democratic attitudes in Switzerland's elections, highlighting implications.
The 2023 Swiss federal elections took place in a multi‐issue context. Various international crises caused global uncertainty, which dominated media and social discourse during the election year. Ultimately, the election results strengthened the right wing, but not exclusively. This special issue of the Swiss Political Science Review brings together eleven articles addressing various topics relating to voting behavior and the congruence between voters and candidates. In times of democratic backsliding in several countries, attitudes towards democracy and alternative forms of government are examined in addition to attitudes towards issues that have been central to media discourse and the electoral campaign. In addition, two methodological papers explore strategies for enhancing the representativeness of the Selects (Swiss Election Study) survey sample.
