Content analysis identifies key social network elements that reduce loneliness in interventions for older migrants, highlighting integration gaps.
Loneliness among older migrants remains a pressing issue, yet the integration of social networks into interventions is poorly understood. This study examines which social network elements contribute to reducing loneliness, and how these are incorporated in Dutch interventions. Using content analysis of intervention materials and trainer interviews, we find a focus on network expansion and support, relationship strength and quality, and expectation management. Socially sensitive topics are challenging to address particularly in group settings. These findings reveal a gap between theoretical insights on social networks and their practical application and call for more systematic and tailored integration of network elements in interventions.
