Validates the Chinese IMI-TEQ for assessing motivation in students, suggesting its use in UX research.
The Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) is a commonly used instrument for measuring intrinsic motivation, particularly within education and sports contexts. In the present study, a forward–backward translation method was used to translate the 22-item Task Evaluation Questionnaire (IMI-TEQ). A Chinese version of the IMI-TEQ passed both content and face validity tests. The questionnaire was then psychologically validated by recruiting 362 Chinese students to assess intrinsic motivation for learning Rhino, a three-dimensional (3D) modeling software. To ensure methodological rigor, this study adopted COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) to evaluate the scale’s structural validity, internal consistency, reliability, measurement error, hypotheses testing for construct validity, and responsiveness. These results indicate that it can be used by Chinese user experience (UX) researchers as a standardized intrinsic motivation scale.
