Case illustrates timely diagnosis of gallbladder torsion in a child, emphasizing ultrasound's role.
Gallbladder is twisted in gallbladder torsion and abdominal symptoms rapidly progress. Timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment is essential. This disease is frequently misdiagnosed as acute cholecystitis and rarely occurs in children. Whirlpool sign and absent blood flow in the cystic artery were identified in a 12-year-old boy presenting with suspected acute cholecystitis. Computed tomography revealed simple cholecystitis, whereas ultrasound suggested gallbladder torsion. Emergency laparoscopic surgery confirmed distended gallbladder torsion, leading to cholecystectomy. Ultrasonic whirlpool is valuable for preoperative diagnosis, whereas laparoscopy is reliable for definitive diagnosis and therapeutic intervention, providing insight for diagnosis and treatment of gallbladder torsion.
