Case report demonstrates effective non-surgical management of pediatric sternal osteomyelitis with abscess formation, emphasizing ultrasonography's role.
Learning Points The present case demonstrates that paediatric primary sternal osteomyelitis should be suspected whenever an abscess adjacent to a sternal segment is identified, as this reflects the unique vascular anatomy of the developing sternum and its susceptibility to hematogenous infection. Serial US is a valuable, noninvasive tool for monitoring abscess progression, guiding aspiration, and assessing the treatment response, particularly in presternal lesions without mediastinal extension. Even when abscess formation is observed in paediatric primary sternal osteomyelitis, carefully integrating clinical findings, imaging, and US‐guided aspiration may enable effective, non‐surgical management.
