Living scoping review maps socioeconomic and environmental factors impacting obesity in Africa, highlighting research gaps.
The living scoping review aims to systematically map existing evidence and identify knowledge gaps in research on community-level socio-economic and environmental determinants of overweight and obesity among African adults. This is particularly crucial given the overlapping interplay of these determinants, the gaps in community-level research, and the ongoing shifts in urbanisation, globalisation, and industrialisation that are driving major transitions in socio-economic and environmental factors (such as food markets, the built environment, and disparities in area-level socio-economic status). Therefore, it is significant to outline obesity and overweight risk factors from a community-level perspective to provide evidence-based data for context-specific interventions aimed at improving and strengthening the prevention and management of these conditions. This will help inform future research and policy implementation.
