This article examines narratives of Palestinian citizens of Israel in Arab media, suggesting a nuanced understanding of representation.
The Palestinian Israelis are largely overlooked or inadequately contextualized in academic research, left out of the Arab transnational milieu. This article investigates texts addressing the Palestinian citizens of Israel, reconsidering the commonly-held assumption that this minority community was represented as passive, peripheral, and pariahs in Egyptian media, widely consumed by the Arab world. By debunking some of this conjecture, the article looks to contribute to problematizing this mis-categorization and help shape an improved understanding of what story was told to the wider Arab world about the Palestinian Israelis, as well as what narrative modern academia perpetuates about the Palestinian citizens of Israel.
